What we offer:Hart plain 1

Active8 Minds introduce Pre-school aged children to sports and activities in the comfort of their playgroup.  Pre School Sports offer 30 minutes of  FUN based learning through physical activity sessions indoors/outdoors.  The children will be engaged in a variety of FUN based sporting activities whilst concentrating on the basic principles of: balance, coordination, agility, catching, throwing, counting and recognition.  We bring our own fantastic equipment such as portable nets (football/tennis), rackets, a variety of balls, beanbags and colour coordinated cones.

Benefits & Rationale:Hart plain 5

Obesity levels among Reception year children living in the 10% most deprived areas in 2011 to 2012 was 12.4% compared to 6.2% of Reception year children living in the 10% least deprived areas (Public Health England, 2013).

In 2011/12, around one in ten pupils in Reception class (aged 4-5 years) were classified as obese (9.5%) which compares to around a fifth of pupils in Year 6 (aged 10-11 years) (19.2%) (The Health and Social Care Information Centre, 2013).

In the 2008 HSE study, over 1700 children aged 4-11 were assessed for their physical activity levels for at least 10 hours per day on at least 4 days.  The study found that sedentary behaviour accounted for the largest amount of time with girls spending a greater amount of time in “sedentary pursuits” than boys.   More worrying is the direct correlation between an increase in age (boys and girls) and an increase in sedentary behaviour.

We aim to support change at individual, group and community levels by providing fun, unique, rewarding and engaging activities.  Our services aim to increase concentration levels, increase confidence levels, increase social interaction, promote a male (or additional female) presence, assist with numeracy and comprehension (identifying colours, listening to instructions & problem solving), promote teamwork and most of all, to promote FUN and enjoyment.  We believe that change is required at individual, group and community level to enable children to be active, have fun and be healthy.

The fundamental ideology of Pre School Sports: Through Pre School Sports activities, children learn the FUNdamentals of movement and focus on the introduction and development of Agility, Balance and Coordination as the building blocks for future complex skills.

  • Pre School Sports activities enables children to engage in fun and energetic activities
  • Pre School Sports activities seeks to eradicate the risk of sedentary behaviour
  • To increase children’s exposure to sport and activities relating to sport
  • To promote good health, growth and maturation
  • Our Pre School Sports programme introduces more male role models into a Pre School environment
